3D-Image Analysis project in German parliament

The research project “QuantVessel” headed by PD Dr. Karl Rohr on three-dimensional (3D) image analysis of blood vessels is presented at an exhibition of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in the Deutsche Bundestag (German Federal Parliament) from 6-30 March 2012. The exhibition shows ten outstanding scientific projects, which were selected from about 20.000 projects from all scientific fields the DFG funds annually.

The exhibition was opened on March 6 by the President of the Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, and the President of the DFG, Prof. Dr. Matthias Kleiner, and will be shown at the Paul-Löbe-Haus in Berlin until the end of March. Afterwards the exhibition will be shown for 1-2 years in other German cities. From 23 April -17 May 2012 the exhibition will be presented in Hannover (Ministry of Science and Culture, Lower Saxony) and from 23. May – 28 June 2012 in Dresden (State Parliament of Saxony).

Within the project QuantVessel innovative model-based approaches are developed for accurate quantification of the 3D morphology of human blood vessels from 3D tomographic image data (e.g., 3D CTA). The project is carried out within the BioQuant research group „Biomedical Computer Vision“ of PD Dr. Karl Rohr. The group develops computer science methods for automatic analysis of medical and biological images.
